EEE Virus information

The MI Department of Health and Human Services issued an alert on September 17th regarding the spread of mosquito-borne diseases (Eastern Equine Encephalitis).

Kalamazoo County is one of the affected areas.  Please read the attached release and follow the precautions (activities at or after dusk) and the recommendations to avoid mosquito bites.

At the complex we will supply spray and or wipes if you wish to use them free of charge.

If this continues to be an issue we will move up the start of games to avoid the time when this becomes more of an issue.

Please start your game on time.  Send a note to your team to let them know we need to start by 6.  All games are starting at 6. Even those games with St Joe

Let me know if you have any questions

How to avoid mosquito bites

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers these tips for protecting yourself from mosquito bites:

1.) Use bug spray: Apply insect repellents that contain the active ingredient DEET, or other U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-registered product to exposed skin or clothing, and always follow the manufacturer’s directions for use.

Other effective ingredients include:

  • Picaridin (known as KBR 3023 and icaridin outside the US)
  • IR3535
  • Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE)
  • Para-menthane-diol (PMD)
  • 2-undecanone
  • 2.) Wear long sleeves, long pants, and shoes with socks: Even though it's still warm out, long clothing can help prevent bites, especially if you apply insect repellent on top of the clothing.

3.) Inspect your home. Be sure there are no holes in the window and door screens so mosquitoes stay outside. Repair any screens that are damaged or have holes.
